Northlight Heritage Volunteer

April 2016 - Present

‘Digging In’ is a series of replica WWI trenches in Pollock Park, Glasgow. Mags delivered a series of workshops and trench tours dramatising life in the trenches to both primary and secondary school students.

Performer / Science Communicator

January 2017 - May 2017

Mags is currently working with Edinburgh International Science Festival touring the show ‘Space Base’ to schools across Scotland for children aged 5 -12. This interactive show mixes science communication and performance.

Cyber Quest Workshop Leader

April 2017

Mags worked as a Cyber Quest Workshop Leader in Abu Dhabi, delivering workshops to teenagers (aged 12-18), in conjunction with Edinburgh International Science Festival

Mags Keohane is a freelance theatre director and producer. Mags runs MINNOW Productions, founded in 2019  MINNOW aims to collaborate with artists to create innovative, socially engaged theatre for a diverse audience

Directing

  • Director of Tatty by Christine Dwyer Hickey, dramatised excerpts presented by Dublin UNESCO City of Literature and The New Theatre. (August, 2020)

  • Director of the contemporary stage adaptation of Three Men in a Boat by Jerome K. Jerome, adapted by Ethan Dillon staged as part of the Cork Arts Theatre and Arts Council Emerging Artists Programme. (November, 2019)

  • Assistant Director to Pat Kiernan, Corcadorca, on the site-specific production of Far Away by Caryl Churchill on Spike Island, Cobh, as part of the Cork Midsummer Festival. (June. 2017) 

  • Assistant Director to Ben Harrison on the production of Flo by Martin McCormick, Oran Mór. Mags managed the transfer of this production to the Lemon Tree Theatre, Aberdeen. (May, 2016)

  • Director for RED Women Theatre Productions associated with playwright Effie Samara. Credits include a work in progress sharing of the play ‘LESBOS’ which was recently endorsed by the Tom McGrath Trust. Director of shared readings for the “Discussions on Displacement” event as part of the Scottish Refugee Festival. (2015 - 2016)

Dissertation Title: “Play the Green” - A Burnbank Bowling Club audio walk of past, present and future

Critical Process: A site-specific performance with community participation from Bowling Club members, Asylum Seekers and local Guerrilla Gardeners. Dramaturgically mapping the site to mix oral histories with the many potential futures of the site.

Project Management

  • Mags produced Spliced by Timmy Creed which premiered in Cork in collaboration with Cork Midsummer Festival 2018, The Everyman, CIT Arts Office and Cork County Council. Spliced is a site-specific multidisciplinary performance which has toured nationally in Ireland. Mags also managed the UK premiere of Spliced programmed by the Traverse Theatre for Edinburgh Festival Fringe 2019. 

  • Mags produced Idlewild a new play by acclaimed Irish Playwright Jimmy Murphy premiered at Smock Alley Theatre, Dublin. Idlewild was presented by Smock Alley’s Resident Theatre Company, Glass Mask Theatre, as part of their ‘The Price of Life’ season of Jimmy Murphy plays 2018/19

  • Arts Industry Assistant, Edinburgh Festival Fringe Society - an administrative festival role supporting over 1000 accredited arts industry professionals in navigating the extensive Edinburgh Festival Fringe. (2017)
